“Um, did you know your stroller has been recalled?”
During a talk I did today on childproofing at Ring’s End (www.ringsend.com), a home fix-it lumberyard/decorating center in Wilton, Connecticut, I learned something, too from a mom in the audience, who had recently moved to the area from NYC. She said that moms on the upper East side of Manhattan are so up on their baby-product recalls that if you’re pushing a recalled stroller while you’re out and about with your baby, for example, you can’t get down the sidewalk without a dozen moms mentioning it to you.
These vigilant moms are also quick to remedy the situation, whatever the recall dictates, such as ordering a retrofit kit from the company and installing a part or ditching the stroller and getting a refund.
That’s refreshing news to someone who writes and cares about child safety. How up are you on recalls? The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s email listserv makes it so easy to keep track of all the baby product and other recalls that occur because the list is sent right to your inbox.
