The organized parent

Baby DazeThe folks at Baby Daze (www.babydaze.net) recently sent me the latest edition of their baby organizer, which allows you to track everything you possibily could about your baby–feeding and diapering, sleeping, pumping, developmental milestones, baby gifts you receive, you and your baby’s diet, and medical stats such as weight, height, and head circumference and the percentiles your baby falls into. Wow! It’s an impressive data system for parents who want to keep tabs.

Personally, though, aside from the slew of new-baby gifts that arrived in the mail and a few temperature readings when one of my daughter’s came down with a bad bug, I wrote nothing down. Maybe it’s because both my daughters were generally such easy babies. Or maybe it’s because I worked from home and had the luxury of just going with the flow. It’s probably a combo of both those factors.

Anyway, many of my mommy friends were quite the opposite and jotted everything down so they could predict their baby’s next move. I think the need to keep written records can depend on lots of things, including your baby (or babies), your situation, and your overall emerging parenting style. Call me a slacker parent, if you will. But once your baby arrives, you’ll know soon enough whether you’re a tracker parent.
